It is very frustrating. Like, I don't think they're terrible people! I have enjoyed a fair bit of content the guy mentioned has done. His videos are a pretty good intro to Destiny lore. I don't think the loremaster BNFs are telling people to harass the devs. But they have a lot of clout, and uh... the wider gaming community, especially for an FPS game, tends to be... volatile (and the writers are doing a lot to make the story and characters more diverse and there is a lot of queer rep so I think there are segments of fandom who will take any opportunity to attack them). And when they are taking criticism from the loremasters as gospel truth... some of the fans take it as an excuse to be dicks.
I mean, it happens in the more transformative side of fandom too - we have the term BNF for a reason! But there is a difference between a BNF who is just popular within fandom where sure, their headcanons may influence a lot of people, and this kind of thing where the BNFs are making careers out of it, and have a certain amount of connection to the people who make the game because they are 'influencers'.
