Uhhhhh... got a new job through the power of actually applying and having an interview? Went to Brighton?
So basically, I got laid off from my job back in May because people who are less competent than me who ran the parent company apparently didn't realise that they had no money until they brought in a new guy to tell them that they had no money. It sucks. But I got a new job fairly quickly. Hefty pay cut alas, but my costs are low and I can work from home and it's better than being unemployed. We'll see how it goes over the next year or two.
I turned 40!
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Um... I made a resolution to get a haircut. Again. And I failed. Again. *sigh*
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister had her second kid!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My uncle died back in July. It wasn't exactly unexpected - he was in his 80s and had been getting treatment for leukemia for the past couple of years.
5. What countries did you visit?
I had been planning to do a trip for my 40th, but being made redundant kinda scuppered that. So I have not been anywhere outside the country.
6. What would you like to have in 2026 that you lacked in 2025?
Boy was I wrong about the new government being marginally better because holy fuck they are really trying to out right-wing the right-wing.
I would like... a better government and proportional representation. World peace. Unionisation. For certain politicians to die in extremely humailiating ways. For generative AI to die a death.
More money. Like, I would not object to a lottery win that would leave me comfortable.
I would like for my mum to not be in massive amounts of pain.
7. What dates from 2025 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I genuinely cannot think of anything that has stood out. Even the day I got made redundant has kinda been a big nothing.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Did an interactive fiction writing course which was cool! I got made redundant and found a new job and did not have a massive breakdown over that which I'm pretty pleased by.
Oh yeah, I wrote a bunch of stuff for Marvel for previous job at the start of the year and the previous year and I am pretty fucking proud of that!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Still have not ebayed all the anime stuff I own that I no longer want to own. Still have not got a haircut.
Just assume this is the answer for the forseeable future ^^;

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I went into the work office once back at the start of December and since then have had a cold and swollen tonsils and sore throat. It's not bad, just annoying as fuck, especially with it lingering for so long.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
More ADHD medication.
All the Murderbot books.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Friends, as always! My parents who have been endlessly supportive. The Low Sodium Destiny community who have been delightful.

Many many politicians and their fascist, sometimes genocidal ambitions. Corporate executives. The Games Industry (see, corporate executives) for laying off thousands of people because of the incompetence and greed of executives, while still giving said executives massive paycheques and bonuses.
Labour party and Keir Starmer for their transphobia and determination to be more Nigel Farage than Nigel Farage.
Every fucking dumbass who voted for Trump, and everyone working for him and all the journalists and newspapers sucking up to him to normalise his evil.
Every shithead AI tech bro and executive too dumb to not latch onto the buzzword. I hope they take a long walk off a short pier.
14. Where did most of your money go?
ADHD meds. Interactive fiction course.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting to see friends, especially Miri who flew over from Australia for the Stellar Firma live show in Brighton.

Lazily at home! My aunt came over for some snacks in the evening.
21. Did you fall in love in 2025?
Nope.
22. What was your favourite TV program?
I very much enjoyed the Murderbot Diaries TV show! It was a good adaptation and they did a great job. Excited for Season 2.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Y'know, I think everyone I hate now I also hated last year so that's something at least?
24. What was the best book you read?
I enjoyed the Murderbot books! They're very good, I devoured them quickly XD
25. What was your favourite video game?
I mean, Destiny obviously. But I have been playing Balatro and Blue prince which are both excellent. I highly recommend them.
Balatro is a roguelike solitaire poker game where you have to hit certain scores by making poker hands, and collect jokers which give you powerups.
Blue Prince is a puzzle game where you have inherited an estate, and each day you have to draft which rooms of the house appear and where they go and explore them. Over the course of many days you uncover mysteries.
26. What did you want and get?
ADHD medication. A new job. Goddam Bungie Store restocked some older stuff so I also got the Witch Queen Collector's Edition and the Vault of Glass raid jacket which were sold in like... 2021! Finished my super long fic!
27. What did you want and not get?
Donald Trump locked up in prison for life. An actual good government. To keep my fucking job!
28. What was your favourite film of this year?
I have not seen many films but I did have a lovely afternoon watching the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare with my dad <3 It is a pretty fun movie. It was about a week after I got told I was being laid off, and I just figured 'fuck it' and went to sit with him and watch the film and it was just... it was really nice.
29. What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
ADHD medication always. My weekly co-working sessions with a couple of friends.
Oh yeah, also I hid 100 small plastic ducks around the house and my parents reactions to finding them has been *delightful*. There's still one left.
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2025?
I own a couple of pairs of pants suitable for an office now for the rare occasions when I need to go in.
31. What kept you sane?
Literally the ADHD medication. Not watching the news wherever possible.
32. Favourite fictional character of the year?
Still Osiris from Destiny 2! I am here for the long haul. However Blue from the latest Destiny expansion is a close second XD She is a delight.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
I don't even know where to fucking start...

I miss friends as always. I miss my coworkers from previous too :( We were a bloody good team and I am still so fucking angry at what happened.

I actually have a pretty goddam solid resume and interview well.

Balatro and Blue Prince are both great! Really clever games. Blue Prince has ended up being something I just play a run of without even an expectation of getting anywhere sometimes. It's just enjoyable to draft the rooms and see what comes up!
I highly recommend the plastic duck hiding. It's been so much fun and we now have an army on top of the fireplace XD
